Doesn’t everyone love working with butterflies?  They are so varied and wonderful!

This card was inspired by the paper.  I wanted to tear it so that the torn white edge functioned as a border.  This turned out so much better than I had envisioned!  :).  I love it when that happens.

Time: 25 minutes

Level:  Beginner

Size: 3 7/8 x 9 1.4 inches, approximately

Supplies:

  1. Glue/Adhering:  Glue Dots® – Permanent Tape and Pop-up Dots
  2. Paper:  DCWV Birds & Butterflies, DCWV Flipside
  3. Ink:  Distress Ink – Dusty Concord
  4. Stamp:  Happy Birthday – 3 3/4 x 1 inch
  5. Tools (not shown):  bone folder, ruler, craft knife, corner rounder

Details:

  1. Front:
    1. Cut
      1. DCWV Birds & Butterflies
        1. Mint/White flowers  = 3 7/8 x 9 1/4 inches.  To make card base:  fold in half lengthwise, pattern to the inside.
        2. Flowers on White = 3 3/8 x 8 7/8 inches, color edges of paper with Distress Ink – Dusty Concord
        3. Teal Wood Grain = 3 1/8 x 8 1/2 inches, color edges of paper with Distress Ink – Dusty Concord
        4. Bird & Butterflies = 3 x 8 3/8 inches
      2. DCWV Flipside
        1. Purple/Lavender = 3 5/8 x 9 inches, color edges of paper with Distress Ink – Dusty Concord.  Use the darker side.
    2. Tear the background area away from the Bird & Butterflies (3 x 8 3/8 inches).  Pull the background toward you to be left with some white area around what is left.  You don’t have to do this all the way around, notice some is left on the bottom.  Also, everyone’s will be different and that is OK!
    3. Layering:
      1. Using “Happy Birthday” stamp and Distress Ink – Dusty Concord stamp around the front edge of the card base
      2. Layer Bottom to Top:  Center and adhere with Glue Dots® – Permanent Tape in this order = Card Base, Purple/Lavender, Flowers on White, and Teal Wood Grain.
    4. Sentiment:
      1. Stamp “Happy Birthday” with Distress Ink – Dusty Concord onto scrap paper from Bird & Butterflies.  Trim to 1/4 on all four sides.  Tear edges away as above from the top, right, bottom sides, and some of the left side.
      2. Layer:  Trim a piece of Mint/White flowers to 4 x 1 1/8 inch, color edges of paper with Distress Ink – Dusty Concord
      3. Aligning left edges of sentiment and layer, and adhere sentiment to layer with Glue Dots® – Permanent Tape.
    5. Assembly:
      1. Align Birds & Butterflies with the bottom of Teal Wood Grain and adhere with Glue Dots® – Permanent Tape.  Make sure that you like the placement in relation to the sentiment.
      2. Align sentiment with left edge of Teal Wood Grain and about 1/4 inch down (consistent with other layers) from top, adhere with 4-5 Glue Dots® – Pop-up Dots.
  2. Inside:
    1. Cut (from scraps from above)
      1. DCWV Birds & Butterflies
        1. Bird & Butterflies (top of paper) = 3 x 8 3/8 inches
      2. DCWV Flipside
        1. Purple/Lavender = 3 5/8 x 9 inches, color edges of paper with Distress Ink – Dusty Concord.  Use the lighter side.
    2. Fold:  There is a piece of scrap from Flowers on White that is 3 1/4 x 3 3/8 inches.  Fold this in half to 3 1/4 x 1 5/8 inches.
    3. Assembly:  Center and adhere layers with Glue Dots® – Permanent Tape.  Order:  Purple/Lavender, Bird & Butterflies, and finally Flowers on White.
