WOW…what a challenge from Canvas Corp Brands.  Show everyone who you {creatively} are staying within the borders of a 4×4 canvas.  I’m not one to follow the rules…but, I tried on this one!

This is a gift wrap inspiration board: wrapping paper, bow, card, and tag.

There is the original canvas, to which I have done a few things…this represents my burgeoning interest in mixed media.  And, my growing stamp collection.

There is the bow…which represents both my decades of crafting, wrapping, and decorating…and my more recent fascination with paper and quilling.

The card presents my main interest of card making, my use of the Silhouette Cameo, and my ability to use the computer to design what I see in my head (the purple stripes were my own addition).  The inside of the card shows my interest in coloring and how I love to add surprises to things I create.

The tag is another surprise – it is removable!  Also, this shows my ability to adapt, recycle, and use what is on hand.  The strings are *remnants* from making the bow.  This also shows my love of paper lace and stamping.  The journey charm represents life’s journey and my current and future travels!

Here are a few work in progress photos:

And photos of the finished project:

And the surprise!

Details:

  1. Canvas Base:  Canvas Home Basics 4×4 canvas, painted with Martha Stewart Pearl acrylic paint.  The purple “X” was created from purple and lavender card stock.  The ends are finished with left over material from the braid (see below) on the tag and lavender matte embellishments.
  2. Bow:  Burlap Fringe (cut in 1/2 lengthwise).  Then the curled curling ribbon.  Hot glued on to the burlap fringe/ribbon is a paper rosette made with Green and Ivory Dot Reverse paper.  On top of that is a quilled flower using the same paper.  The center is a purple matte embellishment.
  3. Card:  Modified Silhouette file.  I used the same Green/Ivory paper and some of the purple cardstock.  The inside is a Tattered Tangles; colored with Copics (V12, 15, 17; YG00, 03, 25, 63).
  4. Tag:  Skinny Tag, background is stamped using part of a stamp from 7gypsies using Concord Distress Ink.   Also, “from the heart” (a discontinued 7gypies stamp) was stamped and inked with Concord.  The braiding on the edge was done with this file using the same Green/Ivory paper. The “Journey” metal charm was attached use two remnants from the bow.
